Two Big Visitors to Penn State

September saw two influential NASA scientists visit Penn State to interact with the Lunar Lion XPRIZE Team during a whirlwind two days. Dr. Jay Falker, Program Executive for NASA’s Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) spoke to not only the Schreyer Honors College, but also to the Lunar Lion team on September 19th about “The Impact of Innovation on Space.” The following day brought Dr. Guion Stewart “Guy” Bluford, Jr., Penn State Alumni, engineer, NASA astronaut, and also the first African-American astronaut to visit space.

The NASA colleagues then together visited the Applied Research Lab’s (ARL) advanced research facility to see the progress of the Lunar Lion spacecraft’s thrusters. Dr. Falker and Dr. Bluford both enjoyed a short presentation detailing mission plans and other related progress given by the various students on the team.
