Lunar Roundup: Amazing Designs (Including Yours?)

Lunar Roundup: Amazing Designs (Including Yours?)

Welcome to this week’s Lunar Roundup! A power-rankings look at who & what’s been “awesome!” over the last seven days of the Google Lunar X PRIZE.

Fascinating designs all around this week---and one of them could be yours! Angelicum's aptly-named Dandelion floated in at number 1; Rocket City Space Pioneers featured 3-D printed wheels and their suspension; Moon Express wants your design; Team Italia showed off their 'zerg rush' approach (Google 'zerg rush'...there's an epic easter egg!); and Euroluna showed off their own huge, inflatable wheels.

Here's your top five for September 25th-October 1st:

1) Angels!

Team Angelicum sat down for the latest official interview, a high-quality two minutes with the team from Chile*. Check out Mars-like landscapes and their unusually-effective rover design:

(*Originally stated the team was from Peru---my mistake, sorry about that! -Nick)

2) Suspense!

Rocket City Space Pioneers posted a great burst of videos, and this one talks both about how they used 3-D printing and the cool, counterintuitive mechanics of their rover:

3) Photoshop!

Moon Express, in full-contest mode, revealed a new one: design their headquarters!

Photoshop a mock-up like the one above, send it in, and you can get an ego boost (consulting on the final building design) and a t-shirt.

4) Zerg!

Team Italia took a look at their own unique approach---a mother bot, assisted by a team of smaller bots. Behold the swarm in this presentation:

5) They Inflate!

Euroluna (as part of their own big video burst) demonstrated their new wheels, which are to be both huge and inflatable:

Honorable Mentions:

I’ll be rounding these up on a weekly basis, so keep an eye here for all the most awesome developments.
