SpaceIL Spacecraft's Orbit
This video, made using the STK satellite modelling & trajectory planning software, shows the spacecraft's planned journey as it travels from the Earth to the Moon. This is a work product of our engineers at Mission Analysis Team:
The launcher first boosts the spacecraft into a highly elliptical orbit around the Earth - to wait for the Moon to 'get into the best position'. Once this time has passed, the spacecraft performs a maneuver to put it onto a direct transfer course. A 'capture maneuver' ends this transfer, after which the spacecraft orbits the Moon in an initially elliptical orbit.
