Luca Parmitano: the first Italian EVA

9th July was a very important day for Italy because, for the first time, an Italian astronaut performed an Extra Vehicular Activity (EVA). Luca Parmitano spent six hours and seven minutes in the open space with Chris Cassidy and completed successfully the first of two EVA. The planned EVAs are necessary to prepare ISS for the arrival of the new Russian module and for new installations. The second EVA will be performed the 16th July (12:15 GMT).
