2nd P²-ROTECT two-day workshop
P²-ROTECT (Prediction, Protection and Reduction of OrbiTal Exposure to Collision Threats) is a European collaboration which aims at providing the space community with solutions to better deal with the space debris that nowadays represents a significant issue for space missions.
The project is oriented towards low-cost solutions (better prediction of collisions of space assets with the space debris, better protection of missions from damage caused by these collisions and action on the debris environment to remove directly the source of the threat) to contribute to space surveillance and improvement of collision prediction methods, while raising situational awareness.
Thales Alenia Space and ALTEC (AdvancedLogisticTechnologyEngineeringCenter) organized the 2nd P²-ROTECT two-day workshop to disseminate the main results obtained during the project. The methodology developed for the evaluation of vulnerability (the inability to withstand the effects of a hostile environment) to space debris at spacecraft and mission levels, the results of the methodology applied on reference cases (LEO mission Sentinel 1, MEO mission Galileo and GEO mission Meteosat Third Generation), the proposed improvements to reduce the mission’s vulnerability and future scenarios of orbital debris where presented.
