SpaceMETA (www.spacemeta.com) and Alcantara Cyclone Space (www.alcantaracyclonespace.com) are proud to announce the signature of a MOU - Memorandum of Understanding (MOU No 2014-1-1 SM-ACS) for the launch of the SPACEMETA-LUMEM – Lunar Micro Explore Mission as part of the Google Lunar XPRIZE.
SpaceMETA, an official team competing in the Google Lunar XPRIZE (www.googlelunarxprize.org ), a race to land a robotic spacecraft on the Moon, has just concluded the final phase of the signatures of the MOU with the binational company Alcantara Cyclone Space (ACS) for the launch of SpaceMETA mission. According to the MOU, ACS delivers the SpaceMETA payload, called “SOLITAIRE”, into the basic orbit for subsequent translunar orbit injection using the payload’s own propulsion. The spacecraft, which has been designed in Brazil, will have the capability to detect water-ice thought to be present in regions under the lunar surface.
According to the MOU, SpaceMETA will share all scientific data (in a raw, unprocessed format) collected on the lunar surface with the scientific community around the world.
SpaceMETA will be responsible for the propulsion module to send the spacecraft into lunar orbit injection. SpaceMETA is committed to developing a green fuel strategy, using fuels like ethanol, and is working with entrepreneurial partners in universities and the private sector in Brazil and around the world.
According Mr. Sergiy Guchenkov, Chief Commercial Officer of ACS, the company supplies the mission with a launch vehicle, communications and security telemetry.
According Mr. Sergio Cabral Cavalcanti, founder of IdeaLabs and SpaceMETA, both companies also hope to extend operations for future SpaceMETA projects, including a Mars probe and even perhaps a deep space experiment to test the concept for giant inflatable antennas.
In his words: “We want to create a movement that will help people to look towards the future with courage, with no fear of making mistakes. One day, one of our children will succeed and they will begin from this point where we have arrived”.
About SpaceMETA – SpaceMETA is a Team of people founded by Sergio Cabral Cavalcanti on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Its primary mission is to help accelerate an aerospace market based on entrepreneurial initiatives with scientific and peaceful objectives in a open-technology based strategy, as well as to explore social and economics opportunities outside planet Earth. SPACEMETA and ACS ( Alcantara Cyclone Space ) signed a MOU for the Lunar Micro Explore Mission - SpaceMETA is supported for GLXP - Google Lunar XPRIZE by INTEL ( FIrst Sponsor ) , Silvio Miglio Inv Fund , Luigi Baraicelli and ACS.
About ACS – ACS is a bi-national Brazil-Ukraine company, responsible for the commercialization and operation of the CYCLONE-4 Launch Vehicle for the national space programs of Brazil and Ukraine, as well as for commercial customers. The Cyclone launcher family boasts a total of 222 successful launches.
About the Google Lunar XPRIZE – The $30 million Google Lunar XPRIZE is an unprecedented competition to challenge and inspire engineers and entrepreneurs from around the world to develop low-cost methods of robotic space exploration. To win the Google Lunar XPRIZE, a privately funded team must successfully place a robot on the Moon’s surface that explores at least 500 meters and transmits high definition video and images back to Earth.
