TFX - Natural History Museum - 11

Team FREDNET has been exploring the Museum of Natural Hisory in Los Angeles, California.  The gem and mineral exhibit is one of the best in the nation.  This video shows their exhibit of flourescing crystals!  This has always fascinated me personally, These are examples of chemical Isomers, where these minerals have the same chemical composition, but a slightly different shape from normal -- the molecules have the same elements, but they combine in an order that is stable, but may not be as common.  These new shapes for the molecules cause them to have some extra and unique chemical properties; in this case, the minerals will glow under a black light, where the more common forms do not.   They are beautiful to see.  Rocks that GLOW!!!
