Shifting Perspectives
on AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is often depicted through a dystopian lens. Yet, AI and big data have empowered humans and machines to collaborate like never before, driving insights, detecting patterns and facilitating breakthroughs faster and at a larger scale. AI is therefore a proponent of the future, not an enemy of it.

Through human + AI collaboration, an infinite amount of untapped resources becomes instantly available. Which is why XPRIZE leverages AI as a powerful tool to accelerate groundbreaking solutions for humanity’s greatest challenges.

AI for Good is a cultural and technological commitment to shift the narrative around AI and provide proof points that AI is a tool of empowerment and a force for good.

AI to solve
global issues

"The time to talk about AI for Good is now - not a year from now or five years from now, but now. The ideas and discussions around AI for Good need to move from theoretical to concrete and practical. For instance, AI can help optimize malaria prevention and improve the treatment of diabetes, but it’s up to humans to tap into that technology.

That is precisely what the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE is focused on - providing concrete proof points of AI for Good in action. Through this work we hope to increase AI literacy and shorten the gap between technologists and problem solvers.” — Devin Krotman, Director, Prize Operations

AI for good
global summit

The AI for Good Global Summit is the leading United Nations (UN) platform for inclusive global dialogue on AI and is organized by the XPRIZE Foundation in partnership with the UN ITU and sister UN agencies.

By connecting international leaders, thinkers and programmers, the annual Summit seeks to identify practical applications of AI that will drastically improve and impact society on a global level through the accomplishment of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Specifically, this year’s Summit aims to create large-scale breakthroughs in the domains of Gender, Food and Pandemics through collaborative workshops and project designs.

United Nations

ITU is the United Nations’ specialized agency for information and communication technologies. XPRIZE and ITU have partnered together to create and co-organize the annual AI for Good Global Summit.

Brain Trust
The AI for Good Brain Trust is composed of forward-looking individuals, innovators and thinkers who utilize their expertise in data and AI systems to help drive global initiatives in the areas of Gender Equity, Food Systems, and Pandemics. Brain Trust members help to identify potential breakthroughs in their respective domains, curate high-impact projects and facilitate connections between innovators and other global leaders.

The goal of Breakthrough Tracks is to generate and fuel meaningful projects in each of this year’s three AI for Good Global Summit domains - Gender, Food, and Pandemics - that will advance progress on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Interested individuals and teams from around the world are invited to submit project ideas to the Gender, Food and Pandemics Breakthrough Tracks. The top three finalists in each domain will be selected by the Brain Trust and will have the opportunity to present their projects at the AI for Good Global Summit virtual event in September.

Submit a Project

  • Biased data leads to biased insights, biased algorithms, biased solutions and policies, and ultimately a biased world.
  • Participate in efforts to prevent a cycle of algorithmic bias and enable an equitable future for humanity.

  • Food systems are the largest contributor to environmental degradation, yet 2.5 billion people rely on agriculture for their livelihoods.
  • Submit your ideas for a smart food system that eradicates hunger, improves nutrition and promotes sustainable agriculture.

  • Facing the COVID-19 crisis and preparing for future pandemics is proving to be one of the world’s most critical challenges.
  • Help identify and develop data-based solutions to bring rapid relief today and lasting solutions to pandemics in the future.
