Moon Minute: Carbon Fiber
By Nick Azer on September 23, 2016
Google Lunar XPRIZE team Hakuto has revealed their new Moon rover, and it’s a beauty!
Built with carbon fiber, the Moon-exploring robot from Japan has taken on a sleek new form. Previous models had the look of a pure “knight in shining armor” with complete aluminum plating, but this edition takes style for the Moon to a whole new level with a dark, elegant look.
The modified shape is optimized for both the best possible camera work--as it will be taking HD video--and for the ruggedness required to explore the Moon’s tough wilderness.
The rover is set to complete a series of additional tests this year both out in the field and in the lab, before being stamped with its final authorization early in 2017. Then, next stop: the Moon.
