Lunar Roundup: A Watch-Worthy Week
By Nick Azer on September 25, 2012
Welcome to this week’s Lunar Roundup! A power-rankings style look at who & what’s been “Awesome!” over the last seven days of the Google Lunar X PRIZE.
Moon Express made their way into a couple of top spots with some attention-grabbers, while Team Indus came in with a great interview, White Label Space gave over their rover to some precocious kids, and STELLAR composed a cool video on the Space Shuttle.
The top five highlights of September 17th-24th:
1.) Moon *Rock*!
Moon Express put a new definition to “moon rock” with a music video that’s both informative and pretty rockin’. A fun watch with some fascinating looks at their (and others’) technology testing:
2.) 23 and M.E.!
In a significant tease, a somewhat-cryptic Moon Express blog post foreshadowed a big contest:
The potential name of the contest?
Looks like M.E. will be partnering with 23andMe to allow one of you the chance to send your DNA sequence to the Moon! Contest details have not been posted, but those are sure to be following soon. Stay tuned...
4.) Rover Over!
Some Japanese schoolkids are sure to make you jealous, as they got to pilot a White Label Space rover in some pretty hardcore challenges! A fun (and bilingual) video:
5.) Shuttle Trek!
Borrowing a little William Shatner, Team STELLAR mashed up a great NASA video with some fun Endeavor content of their own. A slickly-made show on the shuttle:
- Omega Envoy might have a Mohawk Guy on their hands with the dashing (but definitely engineer) Stephen Hall.
- FREDNET fascinated with a trip to the future home of Endeavor.
I’ll be rounding these up on a weekly basis, so keep an eye here for all the most awesome developments.
