Lunar Roundup: Moon TV
A ton of great videos from the teams. Plus, Michio Kaku & the GLXP, coming soon?
This week, in the Google Lunar XPRIZE...
Videos galore, as it was all about the MoonTV, with a bunch of different teams featuring in some great clips!:
The Drawing of the Three
Visiting each team's headquarters, CCTVAmerica got hands-on with things like:
- JURBAN’s ‘earthworm’-like rover design, which avoids wheels entirely and can ‘cannonball’ parts of its robot swarm around the Moon;
- Astrobotic’s sweet robotics lab, including the space-qualified stuff they've already built; and
- Synergy Moon's work down in Mojave, including building their own launch vehicle, lander, and rover---all for less than the cost of the total prize ($20 million);
...plus a bunch more! It's seriously a great video, full of interesting people and conversations, so don't miss it.
Meanwhile, the other teams were not ones to be left out, posting some cool videos of their own!
Team Italia showed off their recent rover test:
And Plan B posted an engaging presentation on their communications---from the beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia skyline:
And following up on that CCTV look at their rocket plans, Synergy Moon also posted a video of their rocket on a hydraulic test:
Plus, some juicy details: on Facebook, they noted the first tests of the rocket itself will both be this summer---launching to high altitude and suborbital! That's coming up pretty quick, so stay tuned!
And in a last tease for even more awesome Moon TV...several of the teams, plus some of our own folks, will be chatting with Michio Kaku on CBS! No further details as of yet, but the two teams with the most Google+ followers/presence will be included, so whoever you want to see talk to Michio on a major network---get G+'ing for them! :)
I’ll be rounding these up every week, so keep an eye here for the best developments from our very own moon race.
And if you have any favorite stories from the week that didn’t make it in here---share them below!
