Google Lunar X PRIZE by the Numbers

Google Lunar X PRIZE by the Numbers

By Astiles  on July 10, 2008

We recently passed the 1000 mark for requests for registration materials for the Google Lunar X PRIZE (we're currently at 1241, and rising). Thanks to Will's diligent work, I've been able to put together some fairly interesting graphs to demonstrate these data.

The following graph shows requests for registration materials over time, annotated with the dates of various important events in the progression of the PRIZE. There are three variables here: registration materials requests (blue, in tens); number of countries interested (orange); and number of registered teams (red). Notice the sharp increases in registration materials requests with each major event.

Then we have a simple pie chart showing the distribution of registration materials requests by geographical region.

And finally, a heatmap showing the distribution of requests by country. Notice that the United States tends to obscure the other countries (this is something we are actively trying to change).
